Dark Harbor is getting a new lease of life, with tickets set to go on sale soon and more details being released about the upcoming haunted creatures at the popular Queen Mary attraction, which have been cancelled since 2020.

Tickets for the Halloween Haunted Event and Festival, which will take place on select nights from September 20 to November 2 on the ship and surrounding grounds, go on sale Wednesday, August 14.

Since its launch in 2010, Dark Harbor has featured several mazes on and off the ship inspired by true stories that took place aboard the ship. It also featured a carnival with roaming monsters, food vendors, and performances. At its peak, it was the ship’s biggest event of the year, attracting more than 120,000 people during its month-long run. But like all other major events, it was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

When it returns, some of the familiar attractions will return, but there will also be a few new twists.

According to a press release from Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group, a Halloween entertainment company that will coordinate the event’s return, this year’s mazes will feature returning favorites like “Feast,” which has been reimagined for 2024.

This labyrinth takes visitors through the bloody kitchen of a mad chef who, after years of serving first class passengers, decided to add a special secret ingredient to his meals. The deadly culinary journey ends in the ship’s engine room, where another of the ship’s famous ghosts may be waiting.

Also planned for this year is “Lullaby,” which takes brave visitors into the Queen Mary’s first-class swimming pool, where they may encounter the ghost of Scary Mary, based on a young passenger who drowned in the pool decades ago.

According to the press release, there will also be new mazes, such as “Infirmary,” which follows the ghost of a sadistic surgeon and his partner Graceful Gale, and “Breakout,” in which players take on the role of Samuel the Savage, one of the ship’s most notorious ghosts. In the “Breakout” maze, Samuel escapes his cell and maze participants take on the role of Samuel and try to avoid being captured.

And if you’re afraid of clowns, just stay home, because also new this year is a maze called “Big Top Terror”, where a sinister ringmaster leads you through a labyrinth of terror.

“We’ve said from day one that we’ll honor the history, legacy and stories of this legendary event,” said Brett Bertolino, director of special projects for Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group, in a press release. “But we’re also committed to leading the event’s evolution by adding new and innovative experiences.”

In addition to the mazes, the Dark Harbor Festival will return with a variety of entertainment including the Dark Harbor Sliders and Voodoo Sound Company in the VooDoo Bayou bands, fire spinners, magicians and carnival performers, hidden bars and rides such as Sinister Swings, Scary Mary’s Ghost Rider, Black Widow and Rampage Double Wheel.
