HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Some locations in Eastern Kentucky woke up to some much-needed rain this morning. We’re maintaining a slight chance of rain in the forecast for the early to mid evening hours before the chance of rain disappears from the WYMT viewing area.

DISCUSSION:
WOW! What a week weather-wise. Not so much here, but across the entire eastern half of the U.S. Francine developed into a tropical storm, made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane, and then quickly reverted back to a tropical depression. As we’ve discussed over the past few days, we’ve had to keep a close eye on Francine, as the slightest change in track has a major impact on our weather.
This weekend’s forecast is exactly why we’ve been posting this disclaimer over and over again. A few days ago we were talking about a chance of rain, up to an inch in some places in our westernmost communities, and the possibility of rain for the Kentucky-Georgia game.
48 hours later: Now that we know where Francine is (just a low pressure system at the moment), our forecast has changed significantly.
Maybe a scattered shower or two tonight, otherwise it will be pretty quiet with partly cloudy skies. It will stay mostly sunny through Saturday and temperatures will drop back into the mid-30s. We can take Saturday, hit CTRL+C and CTRL+V and we’ll have Sunday and Monday.
The next chance of rain is expected on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

There will be plenty of sunshine at the start of the game and it will remain mostly clear into the evening. By the end of the game the temperature will drop to around 24 degrees and we can celebrate the Cats’ victory.
