Today the air is dry; this week the heat increases

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Heat continues to be a major problem for the Gulf Coast, and another stretch of highs in the 90s is expected this week. For now, however, a front is bringing some drier air and lower heat indices to the region today and early Monday. Mornings could get a little less humid over the next few days!

SUNDAY:

A front has brought some drier air into the forecast area, and temperatures will feel a little lower today and early Monday. Dew point temperatures will drop to 15 to 20 degrees across the region, which is much less muggy than the mid to upper 25 degrees we’ve been dealing with. Sunday morning will feel a little drier, and the afternoon heat index won’t be as high. Highs will be in the 30s, and plenty of sunshine is expected.

THE COMING DAYS:

Things are getting hotter over the next few days. There are signs that highs will rise to near 100 degrees for much of the coming week. Those who have extracurricular activities need to prepare for scorching heat, which will likely be more intense than last week. Rain chances will remain low early in the week, but scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected later in the week.

TROPICS:

We are still tracking the tropical wave that is well out in the Atlantic. It has a high probability of developing as it approaches the Lesser Antilles and we expect it to become our named storm. The future track shows a possible turn to the north, away from the Gulf of Mexico and Florida. However, this is still far out in the forecast and we have plenty of time to watch for changes.
