Lynx vs Sun – Predictions, Tips and Odds – 9-17

Lynx vs Sun – Predictions, Tips and Odds – 9-17

Marina Mabrey has been a godsend since coming from Chicago at the trade deadline, and even though she spends most of her minutes on the bench for the Sun, she’s making the most of it. Mabrey is our main target in today’s Lynx vs. Sun predictions.

The red-hot Minnesota Lynx travel east to face the Connecticut Sun with key playoff berths on the line. Minnesota is on the rise, but the Sun have been outmatched in their last head-to-head meetings.

Connecticut’s offense was boosted by Marina Mabrey’s outstanding play as a substitute, and my predictions for the Lynx vs. Sun game are for another strong performance from the sharpshooter at home.

Read on to find out my complete WNBA picks for this crucial contest on Tuesday, September 17.

Lynx vs Sun Predictions

My best bet
Marina Mabrey Over 14.5 points (+100 at bet365)

My analysis

Marina Mabrey has made a big impression since joining the Connecticut Sun from the Chicago Sky at the trade deadline. Mabrey is playing fewer minutes, but her efficiency and points have increased as she leads Connecticut in scoring.

Mabrey is tied with DeWanna Bonner for the team lead in points per game (15.3), but Mabrey is in good form and Bonner is struggling. Since the All-Star break, Bonner is averaging just 12.9 points on 38.1% shooting and has scored fewer than 10 points in two of her last three games. Mabrey has made up for that and I expect her to do so again tonight.

Mabrey came off the Sun’s bench in 11 consecutive games and averaged 16.5 points and 2.8 three-pointers while shooting 50% from the field and 44.9% from beyond the three-point line. Mabrey scored at least 15 points in nine of those games, reaching that milestone in 22 of 38 games. The Minnesota Lynx had the best perimeter defense in the WNBA (29.9% opponent three-point shooting), but were in the middle of the pack (33.8%) over the last 12 games.

Despite Mabrey’s strong play of late, this points bet is available at even money at bet365 and I’m only too happy to take full advantage of the mispriced odds.

The Lynx are the best team in the WNBA after winning 13 of 14 games and the last six in a row. Connecticut can end that winning streak tonight. The Sun have won both of their head-to-head meetings this season, and Connecticut has a 10-2 record against Minnesota in 12 regular season meetings since 2021. The Sun went 3-1 on their last road trip and should be highly motivated after losing to the Aces by 13 in their last game. Connecticut’s rock-solid defense can give it an edge against the up-and-coming Lynx.

All signs point to the Under in this matchup of two strong defensive units. Over the last 12 games, no team has allowed fewer points than the Sun (74.1 per game). The Lynx have averaged the third-fewest points allowed over that span, a meager 78 points. This season, the Sun (93.4) and Lynx (94.9) have the slowest tempos, and both teams are 16-22 against the Under. I expect Connecticut to limit Minnesota’s burgeoning offense at home, and I’m confidently betting on the Under as these teams battle for playoff position atop the WNBA standings.
