Season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars” started with a bang.

Although there were no eliminations in the first week, the audience was introduced to a new group of celebrities vying for the coveted Len Goodman Mirrorball. Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough returned as co-hosts with judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough.

At the beginning of the two-hour episode, former Bachelor Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson were surprised to receive 21/30 after a very impressive and energetic cha-cha – a very high score for the first week.

According to Inaba, it was Chandler Kinney who “set the bar so high.” She and her partner Brandon Armstrong absolutely rocked their tango, topping the leaderboard with a score of 23/30. However, Dwight Howard and Daniella Karagach came in second with 22/30.

During rehearsals, Olympian Stephen Nedoroscik seemed to have neither rhythm nor dance talent. He then took to the dance floor with partner Rylee Arnold for a very energetic jive that earned them 21/30 points.

The last “star” to take to the dance floor was convicted felon Anna Delvey, who laughingly explained during her performance that she was wearing an ankle bracelet because she had been in prison and “it was hard to get out.” She added, “I’ve reinvented myself many times and this time I’m going to be a ballroom dancer.”

After her routine – which began with a zoom in on the rhinestone-embellished anklet – Inaba addressed both Delvey and the audience. “When you came out on the dance floor, the energy in this room changed. I just want to say, let’s all just give this a chance because I can imagine that this is scary for you,” the judge said. “I’m not for or against what you did, but this is about your dancing, so let’s all please give her that space.”
