Pixie Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant is preparing for an even busier year with “Coneys for a Cause.”

Mt. Pleasant, Michigan (WNEM) – A long-standing community fundraiser returns this week in Mt. Pleasant.

Coneys for a Cause kicks off August 12, a great reason to eat out for a good cause. This is the 18th year that Pixie Restaurant has partnered with the Mt. Pleasant Police Department to deliver Coney Dogs throughout the community.

For every bunny sold, the Pixie donates 100% of the profits to the Mt. Pleasant Police Youth Services Unit (YSU). Two YSU officers serve more than 3,000 K-12 students in the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools (MPPS). Their interactive programs include the Youth Police Academy and Shop with a Cop, among others.

“This is where they bring together all the kids who have signed up for a program. It’s like a little boot camp for them,” said Mallory Goldner, manager of Pixie Restaurant. “We sell coneys at a discounted price of $1.99 and all the proceeds for the week go to this youth event.”

Assistant chef Alyson Sly is new to Pixie and says she’s excited to help with her first Coneys for a Cause and the busy week that follows.

“I just know that a lot of people struggle with certain things. And to be able to help families that are trying to make it better and be a part of that, that’s exciting to me because I love helping people,” Sly said.

As if the Pixies weren’t busy enough this week, they’re also filming for America’s Best Restaurants for the second year in a row.

“They’re actually going to be here (Monday) filming us getting ready for some of these big deliveries with the police,” Goldner said. “We were surprised because they don’t normally do that. We’re actually the first restaurant they’ve featured twice, so we’re hoping the whole world will know about Coneys for a Cause now!”

Coneys for a Cause runs August 12-16. The annual Pixie Pig Out is scheduled for August 16 at 7 p.m. Come watch members of local Isabella County law enforcement participate in a coney dog eating contest.
