Eva Mendes is in no hurry to return to acting and she has praised her long-time partner Ryan Gosling as one of the reasons why she has no great interest in getting back in front of the camera.
The actress appeared on Good morning America on Tuesday, September 17th, to promote her children’s book, Desi, Mommy and the never-ending worries. During her interview George Stephanopoulos asked if 50-year-old Mendes was finished with acting.
“I don’t know. If there are interesting roles,” she said. “I left at a time, 10 years ago, when I felt like I had made it, you know? I just worked with Ryan Gosling. He’s, like, the best. It was such a highlight of my career, working with him and what we created together, that I thought this is a good time to Seinfeld it and just go out. So who knows?” (Mendes refers to Seinfeld ended in 1998 at the height of its popularity.)
Mendes and Gosling, 43, began their relationship while working together on the film “The Last Man” in 2013. The place Beyond the PinesIn 2014 they had their first child together, daughter Esmeralda Amada.
In the same year, Mendes joined The Lost Rivera fantasy thriller that marked Gosling’s directorial debut. She then took a break from acting to focus on raising Esmeralda and her younger daughter, Amada Lee, who was born in 2016.
Mendes only returned for a small role in a children’s animated series Bluish in 2021 and lent her voice to the franchise’s celebrity YouTube series, Bluey book reads.
Since she and Gosling started a family, Mendes has been open about her decision to retire from acting.
“It was like she thought, ‘OK, he goes to work and I go to work – I just work here,'” she explained during an appearance on the Today show in March.
She later explained this in an interview with Shine in April.
“There was obviously a lot of thinking and conversation, especially on my part, about what I wanted to do with my life,” she said. “As an actor, you’re on location for months at a time. But I still wanted to work. So I had to come up with something about what that work should be.”
But her acting hiatus or her public comments should not be taken as a sign that she is done acting for good. Mendes hinted in May that she and Gosling might soon be back on screen together.
