LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) – UPDATE (8.35pm): The body found near Exit 49 in the Daniel Boone National Forest is believed to be that of Joseph Couch, authorities said.

Previously, a twelve-day manhunt had been underway for Couch, who shot and injured five people on I-75 on September 7.

UPDATE (7:07 p.m.): A press conference will be held at 8:30 p.m. after a body was found in the Daniel Boone National Forest near Exit 49 on I-75. WYMT will stream the press conference live on WYMT, WYMT.com, the WYMT app and on Facebook Live.

ORIGINAL STORY: Kentucky State Police announced that a body was found near Exit 49 and that they are working to confirm the identity of the body.

In a post on X KSP, Trooper Scottie Pennington announced that “Kentucky State Police officers located a body near Exit 49 in Laurel County and detectives are working to confirm the identity.”

This development follows a 12-day manhunt for Joseph Couch after he shot at motorists and seriously injured five people on September 7.

His search led to several school districts switching to distance learning and the cancellation of several high school football games.
