Many on social media and in the sports commentary world are still excited about Oregon football beating Oregon State at Reser Stadium. From a much improved offensive line rotation to Bryce Boettcher piling up a lot of tackles to over 10 offensive targets getting a chance to play on the field, there’s a lot to be excited about.

Today, you can add college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit to the list of people praising the Ducks. In his latest post to “X,” Herbstreit listed his best players from Week 3.

Second on this list: Oregon’s starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

Gabriel had an impressive game against the Beavers this past weekend. Gabriel’s first incomplete pass came in the third quarter after having a flawless passing record in the first half. Gabriel finished the game with an 83% passing accuracy on 20-24 for 291 yards.

Many credit Gabriel’s running game as the reason he stands out so much. In the first quarter, Gabriel scored a 54-yard touchdown as a quarterback keeper, Oregon’s second touchdown of the game. Gabriel finished the game with 64 rushing yards. Several people online were quick to point out Gabriel’s resemblance to his idol Marcus Mariota because of how well Gabriel can use his legs.

“I think when guys are covered further down the field, that’s the threat of a guy like Dillon Gabriel, who is able to not force anything, but take what they give you. When they did that, he was able to use his legs and take advantage of it,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said in his postgame press conference.

After their 49-14 win over Oregon State, Gabriel’s Heisman Trophy odds increased from +1200 to +900, putting him in fourth place in the Heisman Trophy race.

“I think the biggest thing here is that we see guys who put in just as much time and work can step out on the field,” Gabriel said after the game. “I think that’s great in and of itself, but I also think there’s no better feeling than winning. Finding a way to win one is something you want to do. Obviously you want to dominate and do it a certain way, but I think it’s also important to face adversity early and find ways to win together as a team that’s building up.”

Other names on Herbstreits’ Best of the Week include Alabama’s Jalen Milroe at number one, Oklahoma’s R Mason Thomas at number three, UCF’s RJ Harvey at number four, Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed at number five, LSU’s Bradyn Swinson at number six and Kansas State’s Avery Johnson rounding out the list at number seven.

Herbstreit also released a list of the best coaches of the week and the best teams of the week. Oregon did not make either of those lists. However, Indiana, a member of the Big Ten Conference, did make the list of best coaches with defensive coordinator Bryant Haines.
