Toph actress revealed as Miya Cech

Production on the second season of Netflix’s live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender continues. The streamer has revealed that Miya Cech has been cast in the role of fan-favorite character Toph.

In a clip released as part of Netflix’s annual fan event “Geeked Week,” Toph’s feet are shown in close-up before she stomps and shows off her earthbending skills.

Cech, 17, is probably best known to audiences as a younger version of Ali Wong’s character in the 2019 Netflix romantic comedy “Always Be My Maybe.” Funnily enough, she also played a younger version of Ali Wong’s character in an episode of the Netflix series “Beef.” She also starred in Nickelodeon’s short-lived series “The Astronauts” and had a supporting role in last year’s coming-of-age comedy “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.”

Toph was first introduced in Book 2 of the original animated series, The Last Airbender. Born blind into a wealthy and overprotective family, Toph uses her earthbending abilities to sense the world around her. She teams up with Aang and his companions to master the elements and defeat the Fire Lord.

Netflix has renewed its live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender for two more seasons shortly after the launch of the first season. Like the original, the live-action show will end with the third season. The cast includes Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Daniel Dae Kim.

Albert Kim, who developed the series and served as showrunner for season 1, stepped down in April. Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani will executive produce the show going forward. Kim will remain an executive producer. In addition to Kim, Boylan, Raisani, Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore are executive producers on behalf of Rideback, and Michael Goi was also an executive producer. Goi directed the first two episodes of the series, while Raisani directed episodes three and four. Roseanne Liang directed episodes five and six, while Jet Wilkinson directed the final two episodes of the first season.
