NEW DELHI: On a thrilling day of cricket in Chennai, which saw 17 wickets fall, India put in an impressive performance with Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack against BangladeshBumrah set the tempo by removing Shadman Islam early on when he misjudged an in-cutter. He continued to dominate, taking the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud.
Thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s outstanding bowling performance, India took a clear lead in the first Test against Bangladesh. By the second day, India had built up an overall lead of 308 runs by stumps.

Bumrah’s 4 wickets for 50 runs were crucial and he was ably supported by Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja.

Bangladesh conceded 149 in the first innings, while India scored 376.
India’s second innings started rocky but steadied itself to end the day at 81 for 3. Shubman Gill (33 not out) and Rishabh Pant (12 not out) were at bat.
In India’s second innings, Taskin Ahmed dismissed Rohit Sharma for 5 runs after he was caught in the gully by Zakir Hasan. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 10 runs after he succumbed to a throw from Nahid Rana.

Despite the early wicket loss, India’s clear lead remained in a dominant position in the first innings. Virat Kohli (17) combined with Gill to score 39 runs for the third wicket, which helped to stabilize the innings.
Bangladesh’s cautious approach ultimately led to their downfall. Litton Das and Shakib Al-Hasan, who looked confident in a 51-run stand, were both dismissed for unforced errors.
Litton’s slog sweep off Ravindra Jadeja was caught by substitute fielder Dhruv Jurel. Shakib’s attempted reverse sweep off Jadeja resulted in a deflection off his boots into the gloves of Rishabh Pant.
Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj took one, disrupting Bangladesh’s batting order.
Pacer Akash Deep further accelerated Bangladesh’s collapse by removing Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haq in quick succession. Before their collapse, Bangladesh had had some success by quickly taking the last four Indian wickets, including Ashwin (113) and Jadeja (86).

The partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja produced 199 runs spanning 240 balls and 189 minutes in three sessions. Taskin Ahmed took three crucial wickets including those of Ashwin, Jadeja and Akash Deep.
In the first innings, Hasan Mahmud took the fifth wicket by dismissing Bumrah, making it his second consecutive five-wicket haul after his performance against Pakistan in Rawalpindi earlier this month.
