Severe weather warning until 10 p.m., also in the Twin Cities area

The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe weather warning for large parts of eastern Minnesota, western Wisconsin and northern Iowa until 10 p.m. The warning zone includes the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Storms with heavy hail and damaging winds are possible in the warning zone. A tornado cannot be ruled out. The most likely window for storms in the Twin Cities is between 4 and 8 p.m. from west to east.

Be prepared for possible warnings in your area.

210 PM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a * Severe Weather Warning for portions of northern Iowa, southern and east-central Minnesota, and western Wisconsin.

* Valid this Thursday afternoon and evening from 2:10 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. CDT.

* Major hazards include… Isolated large hailstones likely, isolated very large hailstones up to 2.5 inches in diameter are possible. Isolated damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible. One or two tornadoes are possible.

SUMMARY…Thunderstorms should continue to develop this afternoon and there is a risk of large hail 1.5 to 2.5 inches in diameter. As this activity spreads to the east-northeast, damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph may pose a greater threat through this evening, especially if thunderstorms may form into clusters. A tornado or two also seems possible with any persistent, ground-level supercell. The severe weather warning area extends approximately along and 75 land miles east and west of a line from 45 miles north-northwest of Eau Claire, WI, to 15 miles southwest of Mason City, IA.
