Longtime fans stunned by split of syndicated radio duo from Charlotte

Longtime fans stunned by split of syndicated radio duo from Charlotte

After more than 25 years on the air, fans of the syndicated Charlotte-based Ace & TJ Show were completely blindsided by the news that David “Ace” Cannon was abruptly leaving the show. The announcement was made Friday morning via the show’s social media channels.

Cannon and Ritchie “TJ” Beams have been broadcast partners since 1998.

The statement states: “The new TJ & Riggins Show begins Monday, September 23rd. There will be much of the same content and products, with some new additions to be announced soon. Ace is no longer associated with the show.” Bryan “Riggins” Weber started on the show as an intern in 2009 before becoming a main cast member.

Weber was named Vice President of Programming for the Ace & TJ Network in 2016. He has also worked in production, social media development and as a cast member on the show.

Facebook received thousands of reactions from surprised listeners, which led to the ability to post comments being disabled across the entire site.

There is no official reason for the sudden exit. Adam Goodman, the duo’s manager, said The Charlotte Observer that Cannon’s departure was covered by a non-disclosure agreement, but added that Ace “is still our friend.”

In May, Ace and TJ was moved from Beasley Media Group’s midday station Kiss 95.1 (WNKS) to afternoon station K104.7 (WKQC) in Charlotte. Outside of its home market, the show can be heard on about a dozen other stations in the southeastern United States.
