Country legend who can no longer sing is back on tour. Here’s how

It’s been an incredible year for country music legend Randy Travis and he plans to make 2025 special too.

You can hardly blame him for feeling good and dreaming big, as the 65-year-old is doing things he never thought he would be able to do again after a stroke took away his ability to sing over a decade ago.

It’s a story that began with Travis using artificial intelligence to produce new music earlier this year, evolved into the “More Life Tour,” and now he’s adding dates for 2025 to that schedule.

So how can a singer who can’t sing organize a concert? according to Taste of Country, Travis won’t actually sing. Instead, James Dupre will sing along with Travis’ original touring band.

Travis and his wife Mary will be on stage with them to enjoy the music and interact with the fans.

“The More Life Tour celebrates so much more than just a musical moment,” Travis said in a statement. per Taste of Country“It’s a gift for me to spend time with my fans and my band while James Dupre perfectly presents the songs that define my career.”

Travis suffered his stroke in 2013.

At the time, according to CBS Newshe had only a 2% chance of survival. Randy continued to fight, but the stroke hit the part of his brain that controls speech and language the hardest, according to the CBS report. And so it seemed as though his days as a singer were over.

But in May, Travis released a new song: “Where That Came From.”

How did he do it?

Travis and his team used AI to put the song together, with Dupre serving as a stand-in singer. Dupre did the vocal tracks and Travis’ producers then used AI software to turn 42 of his vocally isolated recordings into the song.
