There was controversy in the final moments of Illinois‘ 31-24 victory over Nebraska. After trailing 31-24 in overtime and a third and 42 attempt after the first down, Dylan Raiola completed a pass to the wide receiver Jamal Banks.
After Banks had already been forced out of the field, Seth Coleman made contact with the Nebraska wide receiver again. However, no penalty was called and Illinois sacked Raiola on the next play, securing the win.

In the loss, Nebraska committed nine penalties, resulting in a total loss of 89 yards. In comparison, Illinois was assessed three penalties, but lost only 20 yards due to its errors. Had the referees called a late hit in overtime, Nebraska would have been awarded an automatic first down.
Unfortunately, Nebraska’s fate was not decided by a single play. The Huskers’ defense could not find any stops on Friday night, allowing Illinois to gain 381 yards. Illinois QB Luke Altmyer was efficient in his work, completing 21 of his 27 pass attempts for 215 yards and four touchdowns without throwing an interception.

Nebraska’s offense did its best to combat Illinois’ offensive pressure. The Cornhuskers amassed 361 total yards, with Dylan Raiola’s 284 passing yards and three touchdowns being the highlight. Still, Nebraska failed to reach the end zone when it mattered most: in overtime.

Nebraska DB Tommi Hill suffers injury against Illinois
In the showdown between Nebraska and Illinois on Friday, the Cornhuskers defensive back Tommy Hill left the game with an apparent head injury. After returning to the locker room for further evaluation, he was taken out of the game and returned to the sidelines in civilian clothes.
It’s a big loss for the Cornhuskers, who allowed 123 yards and a touchdown to the Fighting Illini in the first half alone. Before leaving the game due to injury, Hill recorded two tackles.
