Arizona, are you ready for winter weather and cool temperatures? Well, you’re in luck.
After this summer was recorded as the hottest in Phoenix’s history, accompanied by a series of sweltering days with temperatures over 100 degrees, fall is just around the corner – and with it a hopefully respite from the sweltering weather in what has become known as America’s hottest big city.
Even though winter is still a few months away, the Old Farmer’s Almanac has predicted what weather, including snow, rain, and temperatures, to expect throughout the Grand Canyon State in winter 2024.
Here is the Old Farmer’s Almanac’s weather forecast for this winter in Arizona.
When will winter arrive in 2024?
The first day of winter this year is Saturday, December 21st.
What kind of weather should residents expect this fall?
Even though the seasons change, longtime Phoenix residents know to expect temperatures of 100 degrees at least through early October.
This year, temperatures could fall below triple digits no earlier than mid-September, but most experts aren’t sure if that will happen at all.
Currently, residents must expect temperatures of 38 degrees well into autumn.

What will the winter weather be like in Arizona?
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, temperatures across the state will be colder than normal throughout the winter.
The coldest periods are expected to be mid-November, mid to late December and early February.
Will it snow in Arizona this winter?
While most of southern Arizona does not typically see snow, the Old Farmer’s Almanac has predicted above-average precipitation for the desert region of the southwest, which includes the cities of Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma.
For parts of Arizona that normally see snow, such as the mountains of Flagstaff, Show Low, Pinetop and Bisbee, the almanac predicts above-average snowfall.
According to the forecast, most snowfall will occur in mid-December and early February.
How much snow will there be in Northern Arizona this winter?
While the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts drier than average winter conditions for the rest of the country, a snowy winter is forecast for northern Arizona.
Average to above-average precipitation and snowfall are forecast for the area known as the Intermountain region, which includes Flagstaff, Pinetop and Grand Canyon Village.

Although the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts above-average snowfall for northern Arizona, temperatures were not expected to be too cold. In fact, the almanac predicts temperatures that will be above normal.

However, the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts that the snowiest times for Northern Arizona will be mid-November, early and late January, and mid-March.
How does the Old Farmer’s Almanac make predictions?
The Old Farmer’s Almanac bases its predictions on a comparison of solar activity and weather patterns, it says on its website.
The almanac explains that its predictions are based on findings from several academic fields, including solar science, climatology and meteorology.
It also points out that the current method of weather forecasting is a modern adaptation of a formula developed by the almanac’s founder, Robert B. Thomas, in 1792.
How accurate are the Old Farmer’s Almanac’s predictions?
The Old Farmer’s Almanac, which differs from the Farmers’ Almanac, claims that its weather predictions are 80% accurate.
However, in a report evaluating last winter’s forecasts, the almanac reported an overall accuracy of 64% for the season. The publication attributed the lower accuracy to “abnormal recent weather patterns.”
