India’s ‘Kohinoor’ Jasprit Bumrah gave the side an early breakthrough on the second day of the first Test in Chennai by dismissing opening batsman Shadman Islam for just 2 runs. Bumrah, who remains arguably the best pace bowler in the world across all formats, stunned Shadman with a delivery that the Bangladeshis expected to avoid. Shadman, who faced the final delivery of Bumrah’s first over, opted to leave the ball lying in the hope that it would miss his stumps by a wide margin. However, what the red-cherry Indian pacer managed to do stunned him.

Shadman misjudged Bumrah’s delivery, but the damage was done when the ball hit the top of his off-stump. Here is the video:

Bumrah changed his angle for the last delivery of the over after having delivered the previous 5 deliveries from the other side of the stumps. Not knowing what the ball was going to do, Shadman skipped the delivery. The rest, as they say, is history.

Earlier, India, backed by Ravichandran Ashwin’s century and his 199-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, posted a competitive score of 376 runs on the second day of the opening Test against Bangladesh on Friday.

India, who had started the day at 339/6, lost all four wickets and scored just 37 runs in total, with Jadeja (86) being the first to be dismissed.

Ashwin added 11 more runs to his overnight score of 102 before being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed for 113 runs.

The Bangladeshi pacer picked up three wickets (3/55) – Jadeja, Ashwin and Akash Deep.

Pacer Hasan Mahmud proved to be Bangladesh’s most successful bowler, picking up five wickets for 83 runs.
