Although Navarro showed promise when he arrived in Ohio, the Bobcats quarterback has had a rocky start to 2024. He has thrown just two touchdowns and four interceptions, so a move at the position may not be the worst thing for Ohio.

Regardless, the Bobcats will be hoping for a big upset and a 3-1 deficit as they face a Kentucky team that suffered a demoralizing loss to Georgia last weekend.

Mark Stoops on the quarterback situation in Kentucky: “Brock is our starter”

On the other hand, the quarterback’s play has been a bit unstable at times. Kentucky as part of a weakening offense. Nevertheless, according to Mark Stoops, Brock Vandagriff remains their starter.

Stoops received a question about Wildcats backup quarterback Gavin Wimsatt while speaking to the media on Thursday. When asked why he didn’t play at all last weekend, Stoops said they kept Wimsatt available because there were certain ways they would like to use him.

“We had Gavin ready, you know, and Brock played well. It was one of those games, you know,” Stoops said. “We had plays, you know, and we had things.”

“(Wimsatt) looked really good, you know,” Stoops said.

Stoops noted, however, that Vandagriff’s role as Kentucky’s starting quarterback has not changed.

“Brock is our starter,” Stoops explained.

In his first three college games, Vandagriff is 29-55 (52.7%) for 313 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also been successful in the run game, although seven sacks in the last two games have greatly impacted his numbers on the ground.

Obviously, Mark Stoop realizes that the entire offense, including that position, needs to get better. It’s just not time to make changes yet, regardless of how high Wimsatt is as a possibility for them.
