EA Sports College Football 25 update adds defensive plays and fixes player fatigue

We’re all tired, but a college athlete probably shouldn’t be overly exhausted halfway through a game. That’s why EA Sports College Football 25 is addressing the attrition mechanic in a new title update available now. Additionally, the patch adds new nickel plays for defense and fixes a kickoff exploit that benefited the kicking team.

The EA Sports College Football 25 website details all the new features in the title update, which was released on September 19. Custom audible saving is now included in the game, as is the aforementioned attrition adjustment. One GameSpot editor noted that they sometimes had to bench their running back in the second half because the mechanics were so tough.

The new defensive plays are for nickel coverages and blitzing from the edges, as well as covering receiver formations where three players are close together. The update to EA Sports College Football 25 will also hopefully end a kickoff exploit that would cause the receiving team to not catch the ball. A developer note says this will be monitored in the future and more changes may be coming.

Last month, a patch for EA Sports College Football 25 brought new offensive shotgun formations and behavior adjustments for AI opponents. The game has been a huge hit since its release in July, reaching 5 million players in its first week. EA Sports College Football 25 was also the best-selling game in the US in July.

NOTES ON THE TITLE UPDATE

GAMEPLAY

  • Added ability to save custom audibles in all modes.
    • Developer note: If you change audibles in your formation at play call, they are automatically saved and do not change from game to game. You can do this for up to 32 playbooks. To change audibles, press LT/L2 after selecting a formation at play call.
  • Wear has been optimized to slow down the accumulation rate.
  • Fixed a kickoff exploit where players could prevent the ball from being caught by the receiving team.
    • Developer note: We will continue to monitor feedback on this fix and make further changes as needed.
  • Fixed an issue with Smart Routed Custom Stems that caused a speed boost off the line at snap.
  • Slightly adjust Serenity to increase the impact of the traits in hot or cold conditions.
  • Several improvements to Zone Coverage AI:
    • Fixed an issue where the Curl Flat zone depth adjustment did not work correctly when set to less than 13.7 meters.
    • Fixed an issue that caused Curl Flat defenders to repeatedly drift away from a legitimate pass receiving threat in close proximity.
    • Fixed an issue that caused defenders on the outside of the deep third to move out of their formation too quickly at the snap.
  • General fine-tuning of CPU play calls and coach suggestions in all modes.
    • Developer note: We have adjusted the game situations for certain coverages so that they are used more frequently compared to trips and bunch formations.
  • Working with a current run-and-shoot coach to improve the authenticity of the run-and-shoot offense, this includes making some minor adjustments to existing plays and adding new plays to the run-and-shoot offensive playbook.
  • New defensive plays have been added for Nickel 3-3 Over and Nickel Over to apply pressure from the outside:
    • Edge Flash 0
    • Edge Flash 3
    • FS Will Blitz 0
  • Cover 3 Buzz Mable added in Nickel 3-3 Over, Nickel Over and Nickel 3-3 Odd.
    • This version is ideal for defending formations with three receivers on the same side, such as Trips or Bunch.
  • Cover 4 Field Drop added to Nickel 3-3 Over and Nickel Over
    • Developer note: This is a 3-man offense with 8 defenders dropping into coverage. By default, the Nickel DB lines up on the wide side of the field and the Defensive End on the opposite side (short side of the field) drops into coverage.
  • Nickel 3-3 Cub added to 3-4 Multiple and 4-3 Multiple playbooks.
  • Nickel 3-3 Mint added to 3-3-5 playbook.
  • In Cover 6 and Cover 9 plays, the Curl assignment has been replaced by the Vertical Hook assignment.
