Deion Sanders says he needs reliable players before entering the Big 12

During an appearance on FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders spoke about his experiences this season and emphasized the importance of having reliable players on both sides of the ball. Speaking with former coach Urban Meyer, Sanders emphasized that while the Buffaloes have gotten off to a decent start, they still need to solidify their roster with key, reliable players.

“I have two great coordinators who know football,” Sanders said. “Not only that, but they have good relationships with all of our young men. And we just challenge our young men. We just need seven to eight guys on offense and defense that we can count on. We need those guys that we know what to expect on Saturday.”

This reflects his understanding that consistency and dependability are essential to continued success at the college level. Building a foundation of trustworthy players who can perform under pressure is something Sanders is focused on as he enters his first season in a Power Four conference.

Throughout the interview, Sanders acknowledged the challenges that come with turning around a program like Colorado, which was in a rebuilding phase before his arrival, but he remains confident that the Buffaloes are on the right track, largely due to the development of core players and the culture he instills.

As Colorado moves into the Big 12, Sanders knows the competition will only get more intense. The Buffaloes face Baylor on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET in what promises to be a crucial game for both teams. Sanders will be looking to see which players stand out in this high-stakes environment as he continues to evaluate his team’s reliability and commitment. For now, the most important lesson for Sanders is clear: Success depends on a solid group of players who can consistently play at a high level.
