Once human is a survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world. The gameplay involves building items, unlocking recipes and blueprints, and finding food and drink sources. Eating and drinking in Once human provides hydration, energy, and sanity – all things necessary to survive the apocalypse.

Dirty water and some food can be found in the wild, but if you want access to better food and drink, certain items must be unlocked and crafted. One of these items is the Brew Barrel, which is unlocked at Level 4 in the memetic tree, under logistics.

The brewing barrel costs 2000 energy connections and 7 ciphers and requires the Integrated Kitchen Memetic to unlock. Then you just need a few items to craft: 50 logs, 20 glue, 20 aluminum ingots, 20 rubber and 15 acid. Once the Brew Barrel is unlocked and crafted, it can be used to make various treats in Once humanwhich you can see in the table below.

The brewing barrel requires a power source such as a Solar generator to run. All you have to do is connect the generator’s wires to the barrel in build mode. Then add raw ingredients to create different recipes like beer and cheese that will help you in your attempt to survive in this new but contentious world.

How to make ale, cheese and pickles in the brewing barrel

Get purified water to make these recipes

The brewing barrel is used to make four recipes in Once human: Malt Ale, Corn Ale, Cheese and PicklesThese recipes help replenish vital forces such as hydration and energy, similar to how food satisfies hunger in Sons of the Forest. All of these recipes require purified water, so you will also need access to Water collector, water storage tank and osmosis water purifier. Also, the brewing keg has a 2:1 ratio, so pay attention to this measurement when adding the ingredients.

Brewing takes about 20 minutes. Be careful, as ingredients left in the water for too long will spoil.

To brew malt ale, add one wheat and two pure waters to the brewing barrel. For corn ale, you’ll need one corn and two pure waters. For cheese, you’ll need two milk and one pure water, while for pickles, you’ll need two pickles and one pure water. Be sure to use fresh ingredients. For these recipes, add purified water to the pure water input and the other ingredients to the raw materials input.

How to use the brewing barrel to produce acid (and possible uses)

Farm acid for the production of gunpowder

While making beer, cheese and pickles is a good use of the brewing barrel, there is an even better Use – the brewing barrel is a way to obtain acid. Acid is a valuable resource in Once human. Acid is used to craft consumables and items such as tungsten ingots, accumulators, activators, adrenaline syringes, and gunpowder. While it is possible to obtain acid through other means, such as dismantling items at a dismantling bench and fighting enemies, these things cost time and energy. The brewing barrel passively breaks down acid.

To do this, placed next to a contaminated water source. If you’re having trouble finding a place to put them, you can always change worlds. Unlock and build water pumps, brewing barrels, and reverse osmosis purifiers. The latter requires level 5 logistics. Place water pumps in the polluted water and connect them to osmosis water purifiers. This will extract impure acid from the polluted water. Next, connect the osmosis water purifiers to the brewing barrels. Add pure water to the pure water input and impure acid to the raw material input. Then it’s just a matter of waiting.

Use acid to make gunpowder by three acids, three coal and six sulfur at a supply workbench. Then combine one Gunpowder and three Copper Ingots to craft Ammo at the same workbench.
