Travis Hunter consolidates his elite status in the 2025 NFL Draft with a virtuoso game against Baylor

Travis Hunter consolidates his elite status in the 2025 NFL Draft with a virtuoso game against Baylor

In case it wasn’t already clear: Travis Hunter made it clear on Saturday night in Boulder that he is the most promising candidate overall for the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Colorado Buffaloes needed every ounce of energy and effort Hunter could muster in a nail-biting overtime game in which they trailed for most of the game. He gave it his all on the field, playing nearly every snap on both sides of the ball and contributing at the highest level in both cases.

On defense, Hunter was a dominant, physically Presence for the Buffaloes. He made several NFL-caliber tackles in the open field, man-to-man, and he was the only thing standing in the way of Baylor’s big play. And he made his opponents feel those tackles by delivering bone-crushing blows.

And when it came to the win in overtime, it was of course Hunter who caused the game-winning forced fumble when he made a devastating tackle to get the ball just inches from the goal line.

For most players, a night like this would be cause for celebration. But Hunter is different from most players. And his performance on offense was just as important in this game. Hunter made one crucial catch after another – often between two or three defenders – and led Colorado with seven catches for 130 yards.

It’s important to remember that Baylor entered Saturday’s game with the nation’s best pass defense. Before Saturday’s overtime loss, the Bears had allowed just 75.7 yards per game through the air.

They also managed to keep Hunter under pressure for much of the game. Until the future NFL draft pick finally had enough and exploded on the sideline, shouting loud words. On the next offensive possession of the game, Hunter caught passes for 46 and 31 yards and the Buffaloes’ dormant offense finally came to life.

The NFL has a big decision to make about this kid. He’s clearly an alpha, whether on offense or defense. Hunter has stated that he wants to play on both sides of the ball as a pro. The team that selects him can double his value, making him one of the most interesting prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.
