Colorado still loves prime time (no pun intended), even in the Big 12.

After a wild series of events, the Buffaloes pulled off an incredible win against Baylor, coming away with a 38-31 overtime victory in their first Big 12 duel since 2010.

After Baylor missed a 45-yard field goal to gain a two-possession lead, Colorado had one more chance with 2:19 left and pulled off a miracle.

In the final seconds, Shedeur Sanders found Will Sheppard completely free inside the five-yard line, but the ball was dropped. On the next play (the last of regulation time), however, Sanders rolled out to the left and again aimed for the end zone. This ball was caught by LaJohntay Webster as time expired. The ensuing PAT was successful and forced the game into overtime.

Baylor won the overtime coin toss and elected to play defense, but Colorado didn’t care much, as Micah Welch scored a one-yard touchdown on the Buffs’ seventh play to take a 38-31 lead.

Baylor got to the two-yard line thanks to a thunderous run, but two-way superstar Travis Hunter forced a fumble from Dominic Richardson right at the goal line – the ball flew through the back of the end zone, resulting in a game-winning touchback.

Colorado fans stormed the field while the play was being reviewed, but ultimately they did not become the next “band on the field.”

Colorado allowed a 100-yard kickoff return that resulted in a point and another long touchdown and trailed 24-10 at one point, but they found the end zone before the end of the first half and were able to cut their deficit in half.

The Buffs stopped Baylor on a 4th and inches midway through the third quarter, preventing another two-possession deficit. After both teams exchanged punts, Sanders found Hunter on two long plays to get inside the 10-yard line; two plays later, the score was 24-24 after Welch slammed a ball into the end zone for his first point of the game.

TEMPLE KICKER PRACTICES 64-YARD FIELD GOAL – SECOND LONGEST IN MODERN FBS HISTORY

Colorado’s defense continued to stand topsy-turvy, but when Deion Sanders opted not to attempt a 52-yard field goal attempt, his son was sacked on fourth-and-8 at Baylor’s 35-yard line. The Bears took the lead with just under nine minutes left and needed eight plays to get into the end zone when Sawyer Robertson found Hal Presley for a 24-yard touchdown.

Sanders was sacked on Colorado’s first two plays of the ensuing drive for a total loss of 21 yards (he was sacked seven times in the second half), which ultimately forced a punt from their own end zone. That gave Baylor good field position, but their 45-yard field goal missed wide right, leading to Colorado’s drive that forced overtime.

Sanders completed 25 of 41 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns, including a touchdown. Hunter, the defensive hero, also led the way with seven catches for 130 yards and again played over 100 snaps.

The game was Colorado’s first Big 12 matchup in 14 years after spending the previous 13 seasons in the Pac-12. However, they returned to the Big 12 following the dissolution of their previous conference.

Well, it’s a nice start to the new era.

Colorado improved its season record to 3-1 with the wild win, while Baylor slipped to 2-2.

The Buffaloes travel to UCF next week while Baylor hosts BYU.
