NEW DELHI: Former Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal praised Indian batsman Shubman Gill for his composure during his century against Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai.
Gill and Rishabh Pant scored centuries to help India reach a monumental target of 515 runs in the first Test in Chennai. Both young batters showed their attacking prowess and dismantled the Bangladesh bowling attack with ease.

Tamim expressed his admiration for Gill’s approach during his century while speaking on JioCinema. He said, “I think he showed a certain composure. Even after he got to the hundred. No matter what balls he faced, he always remained composed. And I think he played some excellent shots. He played a really beautiful innings. Yes, they talk about Rishabh Pant, the sixes and the fours. But how well did Gill bat? I can’t forget the pull shot he played yesterday. It’s unbelievable. And the drives and the composure. The best thing was the whole composure. I think I don’t know him personally but he seems to be a very calm man.”
In his career spanning 26 Tests, Gill has scored 1,611 runs at an average of 37.46, including five centuries and six fifties in 48 innings, with his highest score being 128.

Gill has shown remarkable consistency in Tests this year. In seven matches and 13 innings, he has scored 617 runs at an average of 56.09, with three centuries and two fifties. His highest score was 119 not out.
Gill has effectively occupied the third spot previously held by Cheteshwar Pujara. In 11 Tests and 19 innings at the position, he has scored 737 runs at an average of 46.06, with three centuries, two fifties and a highest score of 119 not out.
Bangladesh started their comeback strongly, with openers Zakir Hasan (33) and Shadman Islam (35) sharing a partnership of 62 runs. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (51 not out from 60 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes) anchored the innings.
Ravichandran Ashwin (3/63) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/18) took crucial wickets for India.
At the end of the third day, Bangladesh were 158/4, with Shanto (51 not out) and Shakib Al Hasan (5 not out) batting.
