Eagles vs. Saints: Start time, live stream, odds for Week 3

Eagles vs. Saints: Start time, live stream, odds for Week 3

The Philadelphia Eagles are back on the road on Sunday afternoon for their Week 3 game against the New Orleans Saints.

It’s the Eagles’ first game of the season to air at 1 p.m. ET, and after seeing them play in prime time last week, this early schedule seems like an appropriate time for this matchup.

It didn’t take the Eagles long to run into some adversity they had to overcome, and after a one-point loss to the Falcons in the final seconds of the game, they now have some opportunities to get back on track. There were some pretty glaring issues on both sides of the ball against Atlanta, but perhaps the most noticeable was the poor tackling and the Philly defense’s inability to stop the run.

Bijan Robinson ran right over and through the Eagles’ defensive line, and the Saints have used a similar scheme and had success with it. DC Vic Fangio said they need to find a way to stop the run if they want any chance of pressuring the passer. The Eagles’ defense was all but ineffective last game, but Fangio said players like Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith can’t put pressure on the quarterback or sack him if they don’t stop the run game first.

That will be the big challenge for them on Sunday and it seems like it was a quick turnaround in terms of how much repairs needed to be made.

On offense, AJ Brown will miss his second straight game, and it’s become increasingly apparent how important the wide receiver is to the entire operation. There’s still enough talent to be effective without Brown, but last week saw some mistakes and drops from some of the team’s most reliable players — DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley — that will need to be mitigated against New Orleans.

This is the same team we saw in 2023: tons of talent but lacking productivity. Hopefully things turn around sooner rather than later, otherwise the next 15 weeks will be the longest of the year.

Here’s everything you need to know about watching the game.

History lesson

The Eagles lead the all-time list of these teams at 18-13 and have won two of their last three meetings. The last time they faced each other was at the end of the 2022 NFL season, when the Saints beat the Eagles 20-10 in Philly. New Orleans leads the postseason series 3-1, including their last meeting during the NFC Divisional Round in January 2019.

There’s quite a history in terms of the players on these teams, too. Malcolm Jenkins was drafted by the Saints before signing with the Eagles and then returning to New Orleans for the final years of his career. It’s also a place where current players like CJ Gardner-Johnson and Zack Baun will return as former players.
