Patrick Mahomes will not be able to improve his incredible statistics in the dome stadiums on Sunday

Even by Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ standards, his statistics are absurd in one particular sub-area.

Mahomes has won two NFL Most Valuable Player awards, thrown for over 5,000 yards in a season twice, and thrown 50 touchdown passes in a season.

But look at his numbers when the Chiefs played in a covered stadium:

  • 10:0 record

  • 273 degrees

  • 413 attempts

  • 3,145 passing yards

  • 23 touchdowns

  • 2 intercepted passes

Super Bowl LVII was played with the roof open at State Farm Stadium, but the Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Mahomes completed 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the closed stadium.

Even though the Chiefs are playing the Falcons on Sunday Night Football at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Mahomes will have no chance to improve on those insane numbers.

That’s because the roof will be open. One fan noted that this will be only the second time this has happened at a Falcons game since 2020.

Was the decision to open the roof made because of Mahomes’ success? That seems questionable. It’s probably because the Falcons rarely have their home games in prime time and owner Arthur Blank is being inducted into Atlanta’s Ring of Honor. It will be a special night in Atlanta.

You can expect to see a shot of the roof opening during the NBC broadcast because it’s pretty cool.
