Source – NFL punishes Saints player Carr for Michael Jackson’s touchdown dance

METAIRIE, Louisiana — New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr was fined for his Week 2 touchdown celebration in which he imitated Michael Jackson, a source told ESPN.

Carr ran the ball in from the 1-yard line for a touchdown in the third quarter of the Saints’ 44-19 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, then performed a dance move made famous by Jackson that involved grabbing his crotch.

Although the NFL relaxed some rules regarding touchdown celebrations in 2017, the current rulebook states that a player can be warned for unsportsmanlike conduct if “an act is sexually suggestive or offensive.”

Fines for Week 2 have not yet been made public, but the first offense for unsportsmanlike conduct carries a fine of $14,069. Carr was not penalized for the celebration.

Carr said he chose this celebration because he promised his family he would dance next to Jackson if he scored a touchdown this season.

“People don’t know much about me. … Weddings or birthdays, I’m always dancing,” Carr said after the game. “One time I met Michael Jackson and (my brothers) were like, ‘Brother, this is what you have to do when you score.'”

Pro Football Talk first reported on Carr’s fine.
