Kyle Walker and his Manchester City teammates were furious when Arsenal equalised in their big Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s visiting side were defensive from the start and Erling Haaland scored his 100th goal for City in fantastic fashion in the 9th minute to give the hosts a deserved lead.

However, their lead was then wiped out when Arsenal’s summer signing Riccardo Calafiori scored a sensational first goal for the club, equalising for the visitors against the run of play.

When Arsenal’s goal was confirmed, there was heated discussion with referee Michael Oliver. Walker led the charge and criticised the referee for taking a free kick too quickly.

Oliver had pulled Walker into the middle of the pitch for a conversation after a free kick was awarded and then conceded the set piece before the City defender was back in position.

Arsenal attacked down the wing through Gabriel Martinelli, whose pass gave the unmarked Calafiori the opportunity to create a powerful shot which he converted seemingly effortlessly.

Walker and his colleagues were waved away by Oliver, while City boss Pep Guardiola was also fuming in the dugout after the goal was awarded to give Arsenal hope of a first victory over their title rivals under Arteta.

Guardiola’s anger was so great that he kicked his chair in the technical area and at the same time shouted at Walker for catching him in an unfavourable position.

Former City Premier League winner Micah Richards analysed the bizarre situation at half-time and admitted Walker’s anger was justified but stressed he could have got back into position more quickly.

“They see it here at the foul and where the foul is, then they call Kyle Walker over to see what’s going on and speak to the referee,” Richards told Sky Sports.

“Kyle Walker jogs back, in all fairness he should sprint back. Arsenal take the free kick and it’s a bit too easy.

“I feel sorry for him for the first part because he wasn’t properly prepared, but he could have come back sooner,” he said.

City’s problems worsened when Gabriel scored before half-time to give Arsenal a 2-1 lead.
