PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are under pressure to trade one of their quarterbacks as a window opens that could create an opportunity for a transfer. Meanwhile, with Week 3 upon us, the urgency for a wide receiver is likely to increase and the time for a move could be coming soon.

The Steelers were named as the Miami Dolphins’ “first” option to replace Tua Tagovailoa after the quarterback was placed on the injured list due to a concussion. Former head coach Rex Ryan, who pushed the transfer, believes Russell Wilson should be sent to Miami.

Would the Steelers really consider a quarterback trade? Would they consider one even if Justin Fields becomes the team’s permanent starter this season?

Then there’s the other offensive play everyone is waiting for. Through two weeks, the Steelers’ backup wide receivers have caught five passes for 28 yards. George Pickens, meanwhile, has caught eight passes for 114 yards and could have added 50 more if there were no penalties in Week 2.

Meanwhile, the Panthers are struggling in Carolina. The team already has its first quarterback on the bench, is 0-2 and looks like the season is already over. This is showing on the field and on the sidelines, as some players are not reacting well.

So maybe the Steelers should make a call. Not about Diontae Johnson, who probably won’t be returning to Pittsburgh anytime soon, but about their other wideout.

Why not? The Steelers need a veteran they can rely on, not someone who’s in the game long-term. After missing out on Brandon Aiyuk, they’re just looking for a short-term rental player with proven ability. The Panthers could be the perfect fit.
