The Detroit Lions and head coach Dan Campbell are looking for a comeback win in their first road game of the season against the high-flying Arizona Cardinals in Arizona today.

Both teams are 1-1, although the Lions’ vaunted offense has failed to score more than 20 points in regulation this season. The Lions went 1 of 7 in the red zone against Tampa Bay last week.

The Cardinals rank second in the NFL in points per game behind only New Orleans, averaging 34.5 points in their games in Buffalo (34-28 loss) and at home against the Los Angeles Rams (41-10 thrashing).

CARLOS MONARREZ: I choose the Lions over the Cardinals and give them a guarantee for their offense

Game Notes: Marvin Harrison Jr., a rookie receiver from Arizona and a former Ohio State player selected fourth overall in April, caught four passes for 130 yards and two scores last week. Kyler Murray had a perfect 158.3 passer rating, but he will have to deal with pressure from Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, who had 4½ sacks against Baker Mayfield and is trying to break the NFL single-season record for sacks. … The Lions and Cardinals last met in 2021, a surprise 30-12 Lions victory at Detroit. The Lions are 2-0-1 against Murray, but Campbell and second-year Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon have never faced each other as head coaches.

Next: The Lions host the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football in Week 4, then have a bye before visiting Dallas in Week 6. The Cardinals have their third straight home game against Washington next week, then visit San Francisco in Week 5.

Detroit Lions vs. Arizona Cardinals prediction, tips, betting odds

Carlos Monarrez, Detroit Free Press: Let me calm your nerves by assuring you that this is definitely a playoff team. Oh, wait, that’s not a Tigers prediction? My bad. Yes, the Lions are a surefire playoff team too, and they’ll prove it with a comeback game on offense and prove the sky isn’t falling. Before Thursday, Jared Goff and Co. boasted the second-best offense in the NFL (hats off to Matt Patricia’s O-line) and ranked in the top 10 in a number of crucial areas. Yes, I know: Red zone! But they are lucky because the Cards’ red zone defense ranks in the bottom third. The selection: Lions 31, Cardinals 24.

Spread: Lions (-3).

Over/Under: 51½ points.

Money line: Lions (-150), Cardinals (+125).

Odds according to BetMGM, as of Saturday evening.
