Lions score spectacular hook-and-ladder touchdown and surprise Cardinals

With a move typical of street football, the Detroit Lions scored a spectacular touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon in Glendale.

The Lions led 13-7 and Jared Goff and the offense made another solid drive to the Arizona 21-yard line when the offensive coordinator called an exciting play, assuming they could complete it.

As Goff dropped back into the pocket, he found his top target, Amon-Ra St. Brown, with a short slant.

However, he only had the ball in his hands for a second when he threw it sideways to running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who was running in the other direction behind him.

The so-called “hook-and-ladder” worked perfectly: Gibbs not only used his tremendous speed to gain many yards, but also dived into the end zone to score the 20-yard touchdown and give the Lions a 20-7 lead.

The Lions posted the great play on social media and commentators were quick to point out the crowd’s reaction, which was simply in awe of what they saw.

And since it was an away game for the Lions, Cardinals fans were just as amazed as their team on the field to see everything work perfectly.

Plays like hook-and-ladder must work perfectly to be successful on game day, because the ball transfers are so fast that players have to be careful not to lose the ball.

The Lions had obviously worked on it in practice and Johnson trusted his stars to get it done. The result couldn’t have been better.

Detroit is trying to get the ball back from a tough loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a game in which they abandoned their patented running game and threw to Goff 55 times in the 20-16 loss.
