Ravens hold off Cowboys comeback in 4th quarter and take first win of 2024 season

Ravens hold off Cowboys comeback in 4th quarter and take first win of 2024 season

This week’s victory clearly went to the Baltimore Ravens, who fended off the Dallas Cowboys’ attack in the second half of the game and finally managed to win 28:25 this season.

The last two weeks have been brutal for the Ravens late in the game, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs because of a toe in the back of the end zone and watching the Las Vegas Raiders shock them at home by 10 points in a matter of minutes.

But this time, John Harbaugh’s team was ready for the challenge on the road and did not allow another mishap to occur in the fourth quarter.

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense left no room for error in the first three quarters of what threatened to be a runaway victory at AT&T Stadium, with the Ravens leading 28-6 at the time.

But Prescott turned things around in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 points. It all started when veteran kicker Justin Tucker, who struggled earlier in the season, missed a 46-yard field goal with 10:41 left in the quarter.

Prescott gained 64 yards in six plays and found the end zone himself when the quarterback sneaked up the middle after KaVontae Turpin caught a pass from him that ran 23 yards and ended up at Baltimore’s one-yard line.

THIS IS (NOT) RAVEN: WHY BALTIMORE’S SEASON IS ALREADY OVER

Then the home crowd was thrilled when the Ravens botched an onside kick attempt by Dallas and the Cowboys immediately regained possession. Prescott did not miss the opportunity and found Jalen Tolbert for a 15-yard touchdown pass, but the two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

With the score at 28:18 and 7:07 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, there was still enough time to at least force overtime against the Ravens.

Jackson’s unit also failed to complete its task when in possession of the ball and was forced to punt on a three-and-out drive, giving Prescott another chance to reduce the lead.

And that’s exactly what happened: The Cowboys needed 11 plays to cover 91 yards, and Turpin found the end zone from 16 yards out, cutting the game to three points.

Now the Ravens fans were sweating as Jackson & Co. got the ball and needed first downs to secure the win. Although they couldn’t stop the clock beforehand, Jackson literally took matters into his own hands on 2nd-and-9 at the two-minute warning and ran 10 yards for the first down.

With Dallas running out of timeouts, Jackson got the win. It was a tough finish, but it looked easier in the first half.

Baltimore knew it had to win this game to get on the right track, and so it began after forcing the Cowboys to punt. On the Ravens’ first drive, Jackson found the end zone on a nine-yard run attempt to take an early lead.

Then it was running back Derrick Henry who had a great game with 151 rushing yards on 25 attempts and two touchdowns, reaching the end zone for the first time in the game from one yard out on the Ravens’ second drive and taking a 14-3 lead.

Both Henry and Jackson anchored the running attack for Baltimore, combining for 238 yards on the ground. Jackson threw for 182 yards on 12 of 15 aerial throws, including a touchdown pass to Rashod Bateman in the first half.

Prescott finished the game completing 28 of 51 passes for 379 yards and two touchdown passes, and tight end Jake Ferguson led the game with 95 receiving yards. CeeDee Lamb was relatively quiet by his standards, managing 67 yards on four receptions.
