A WALMART customer was angry about a checkout feature he couldn’t use effectively.

They criticized the retail giant after experiencing long queues and wait times at checkout during a recent grocery shopping trip.

The customer, Michael, stated that he was a Walmart+ subscriber, meaning he paid an annual fee of $98 for various perks and benefits.

One of these benefits is the Scan & Go feature of the Walmart mobile app.

With Scan & Go, Walmart+ members can scan items in-store as they pick them up and place them in their cart, generating a single barcode for everything that they can quickly show to the cashier or check at the self-checkout to quickly exit the store.

Walmart recently introduced a controversial policy in select stores that provides self-checkout kiosks specifically for Walmart+ subscribers to make the process more efficient.

Michael’s store apparently did not make the change, so he had to pay $98 and forgo the promised benefit.

“@Walmart, why doesn’t Walmart+ just have the Scan & Go checkout?” he asked in a post to X on Sunday.

“The queues at the self-service checkouts are over 30 metres long and it can take over 30 minutes to get through.”

Michael complained that paying often “takes longer than shopping.”

“I thought Scan & Go was supposed to save time,” he added.

Walmart responded quickly and asked Michael to send them a direct message with more information to resolve the issue.

HELP NEEDED

It’s unclear if the customer ever made contact, but he wouldn’t be the only one having problems with Walmart+.

Usually, it’s the non-subscriber customers who are angry that some self-checkout kiosks are blocked off to Walmart+ members and Spark drivers.

Some have claimed that at least 60% of the kiosks in their stores are now occupied, leaving little for regular customers.

Walmart also caused an uproar by testing another policy similar to one Target made permanent this spring.

RESTRICTED ACCESS

Some locations have seen a 15-item limit at self-checkouts, further restricting access to kiosks.

Customers with more than 15 items and no membership described the changes as confusing about where to pay for their groceries.

Many claim that there are not enough cashiers to handle the influx of customers who would have used self-checkout lanes before these measures were introduced.

Others said that their stores only had self-service checkouts and no cash registers open and that there was an item limit of 15 items.

Walmart was also targeted this summer by a customer who allegedly overpaid $121 for an item.

Another was forced to scan $400 worth of groceries due to the retailer’s recent policy decisions.
