Clyde Edwards-Helaire announces possible return with social media post

The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing with serious injuries to key offensive players like Isiah Pacheco and Hollywood Brown. To fill the need for more playmakers, they signed Kareem Hunt, but they could get even more additional help.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who was placed on the non-football injured list before the start of the season, may have hinted at his impending return on social media. Edwards-Helaire is not eligible to play until Week 5 at the earliest, but his social media post has Chiefs fans excited for his comeback.

The post is admittedly cryptic. The caption only contains the numbers 22 and 5. 22 was Edwards-Helaire’s jersey number during his college days. 5 could refer to his return date.

It could also mean something completely different, but it was still enough to get fans excited.

The Chiefs had placed the running back on the NFI list after he missed several training camps due to an illness. Edwards-Helaire has struggled with PTSD since an incident in 2018 while he was at LSU. He has had flare-ups throughout his NFL career and rumors say this was one of those moments.

Carson Steele and Samaje Perine will do the bulk of the work in Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons. Keaontay Ingram was elevated and could get some reps. Kareem Hunt will likely be in the mix starting Week 4.

Then things will get interesting when Edwards-Helaire returns in Week 5. How the next two weeks go for the running back unit will determine who gets taken out of the rotation when the veterans, including Pacheco, eventually return.
