Fordham’s Farmhouse Restaurant celebrates 20 years of home cooking in Statesboro

Fordham’s Farmhouse Restaurant recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, honoring two decades of serving home-cooked meals in a welcoming, family atmosphere. The celebration honored memories from patrons and staff, highlighting the restaurant’s impact on the community and its famous chicken.

On Monday, July 29, Fordham’s Farmhouse Restaurant celebrated its 20th anniversary with a public celebration honoring two decades of delicious, old-fashioned home cooking for the Statesboro community.

Founded by Allen and Suzy Fordham in 2004, the restaurant has become a beloved local institution and is known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere where everyone – from guests to staff – feels like part of the family.

The restaurant was born out of a dream to create a business that offered more than just food, but a place for families and friends to gather over healthy meals. Allen, who has a degree in accounting but has always been drawn to entrepreneurship, saw an opportunity to take over a local restaurant business. With the support of Suzy and her community, Fordham’s Farmhouse was born.

One of the distinguishing features of Fordham’s is its unique dining experience. Guests move through a cafeteria-like line and choose from a variety of homemade dishes. The menu changes daily and offers different specials and discounts depending on the day of the week.

This approach not only keeps the menu fresh, but also ensures there’s always something new to try. Many dishes have earned a loyal following, but the restaurant’s chicken is particularly famous and is often cited as the best in town.

Many spoke of the tradition of bringing their families to the restaurant, a practice that has continued for generations. It is not uncommon to hear stories of guests who ate at Fordham’s as children and now bring their own children, passing on the tradition of enjoying hearty, home-cooked meals in cozy surroundings.

Pam, currently a server at Fordham’s, has witnessed the restaurant’s evolution firsthand. With 40 years in the industry, the last four of which she spent at the Farmhouse, Pam has a deep appreciation for the Fordham family and the restaurant’s culture.

“Oh, I love this place. Working for Suzy and Allen, well, they’re just the best. After working in restaurants my whole life, I’m glad I ended up here. It will be the last place I work,” she said, emphasizing the strong sense of belonging and satisfaction she feels working there.

Looking back on the past 20 years, Suzy Fordham expressed her deep gratitude and sense of fulfillment.

“It has been an incredible journey serving the Statesboro community. Our goal has always been to create a place where people can enjoy a hearty meal and feel at home, and it has been truly rewarding to see generations of families come through our doors,” she said.

From families looking for a healthier alternative to fast food to students craving a taste of home, we have been privileged to be a part of their lives.”

Suzy’s words underscore the restaurant’s ongoing commitment to providing a welcoming space where delicious, comforting meals take center stage.
