Effingham County Regional Airport hosts groundbreaking ceremony for runway extension

Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County Airport Commission announced at its meeting Wednesday that it will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking for the runway extension on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.

The Airport Commission, along with Hanson Professional Services, Inc., the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Illinois Division of Aeronautics, have been working hard on a runway extension for the newly renamed Effingham County Regional Airport. The project received funding from the Rebuild Illinois Program and was officially approved by the FAA on December 6, 2023. A letter described the project as extending the primary north-south runway 11-29 898 feet to the southeast and extending parallel taxiway A to the extended runway 29.

After the preparatory work of removing obstacles, laying roads and conducting the environmental impact assessment is completed, the Airport Commission is ready to start construction of the extension.

The Airport Commission would like to invite the public to join them in celebrating this next phase of the Effingham County Regional Airport.
