Silver medalist and pole vaulter Katie Moon returns to Tulsa

TULSA, Oklahoma – Pole vault silver medalist Katie Moon is moving to Tulsa after the Olympic Pairs Games.

Recent pole vault silver medalist Katie Moon has been doing some of her training at the University of Tulsa. Katie said she was happy to be able to bring the equipment to Tulsa.

“I can’t even put it into words. I just shot over the bar and looked into the stands,” Katie said.

Katie’s medal was gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Moon said her family’s support helped her get back on the podium.

“I was standing on the runway getting ready for my attempt and I could hear them cheering me on,” Katie said.

After her success, Moon will be even closer to her husband Hugo, who is the assistant rowing coach at the University of Tulsa.

However, since Katie did most of her Olympic training in Atlanta, she split her time between training and her stay in Tulsa.

Now the couple will call Tulsa their home.

“From now on, we will both move to Tulsa together,” Hugo said.

Katie said she was excited to finally stay in Tulsa with her husband.

“I’m so ready to be there. I love the atmosphere. I’m just really enjoying my time there,” Katie said.

Katie said that despite the need to train, her heart was in Tulsa with her husband. She told 2 News that the decision had been in the works for some time.

“Pretty much forever. I think we always knew that a long-distance relationship wasn’t forever,” Katie said.

What is next for the Olympian now, at the age of 33?

“I would love to have a family. I know some women can do both, but I can’t imagine doing both,” Katie said.

Katie said she still plans to continue her pole vaulting career.
