The TikTok shop now offers luxury second-hand items in the UK, competing with platforms such as Vestiare Collective and Depop.

People in the UK can buy used designer clothes as well as luxury accessories and bags without leaving the app.

TikTok has reportedly raised the price cap on TikTok Shop to £4,000, indicating a clear preference among users for more expensive products and archive fashion garments.

The second-hand label also helps the company appeal to a thriving Generation Z scene looking for niche designer brands at cheaper prices.

The platform also increased its seller fees earlier this year, indicating a trend toward higher-priced items.

Five designer resale brands have been added to the TikTok Shop UK page: Luxe Collective, Sellier Knightsbridge, Sign of the Times, Hardly Ever Worn It and Break Archive.

Jan Wilk, Operations Manager at TikTok Shop UK, said: “This announcement is an exciting first step for TikTok Shop into the world of secondhand fashion.

“TikTok Shop is already a leader when it comes to discovery-based commerce, and with a vibrant fashion community thriving on TikTok, retailers have a unique opportunity to reach new audiences and customers in an inspiring and accessible way to learn about luxury fashion.”

TikTok Shop allows sellers to use the app to sell their products through live sales, in-app stores, and collaboration with developers.

Signing up for the service is easy and has helped countless brands and sellers connect with more customers through the platform.

The latest initiative in the UK is part of TikTok’s broader plans to expand its product options while encouraging users to stay on the platform.

It is also possible to purchase things like flowers, plants or wellness products via the app.

The new category was first introduced in the United States and has reportedly contributed to sales of over a billion dollars (£800 million) worth of products.

However, the platform has faced significant issues related to counterfeiting and has been forced to close several accounts promoting fake products.

Given the large number of counterfeit designer products, this can be an even greater challenge.
