Sunday was a big night for the Steele family.

While Carson, an undrafted rookie running back from UCLA and Ball State University, was making his first start for the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, his only sister Kesslar was celebrating her wedding 525 miles north of Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Greenwood, Indiana.

Steele completed 17 carries for 72 yards in replacement for the injured Isiah Pacheco, but was one of the last to see his family celebrate his achievement after millions of people watched it during the game on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.”

The broadcast showed the wedding party and guests watching the Chiefs’ 22-17 victory over the Falcons on a television wall at the reception.

Although, according to the Kansas City Star, Steele had told his sister that this was not necessary.

“I thought, ‘If too many people are watching the game, turn the TV off,'” Steele said, noting that Kesslar has long been his biggest supporter during tough times. “But she just fell for it.”

Steele was supposed to be best man until his football career in Kansas City took an unexpected turn.

“I was like, ‘Hey, you can’t plan weddings in September when your brother is in the NFL,'” Steele joked, since she had apparently planned the wedding while he was still in college. “But obviously she wasn’t really listening to me.”

For now, Steele has to make do with photos from the wedding, as he expects to play an important role in Kansas City’s offense in the future.

The Chiefs (3-0) travel to Los Angeles on Sunday to face the Chargers (2-1).
