Carson Steele misses his sister’s wedding for Chiefs game

Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Carson Steele made his first NFL start on his sister’s wedding day.

During the Football on Sunday evening On Sunday, Sept. 22, viewers were shown a clip from Steele’s sister Kesslar’s wedding reception, where guests watched the Chiefs vs. Atlanta Falcons game to cheer on Steele, 21. Steele earned his first start after Isiah Pachecho was injured last week. (The Chiefs won the game 22-17, with Steele making 17 carries for 72 yards.)

“Man, this is just so cool,” said Steele The Kansas City Star after seeing the viral clip of Kesslar’s wedding. “I thought, ‘If too many people are watching the game, turn the TV off.’ But (Kesslar) just fell for it. She’s always there for me, too.”

Steele mentioned that he was asked to be best man at his sister’s wedding, but put his career first.

“I was like, ‘Hey, you can’t plan weddings in September when your brother is in the NFL.’ But obviously she wasn’t really listening to me,” Steele explained to the outlet, adding that Kesslar had been planning her wedding for two years.

In another post-game interview, Steele reiterated his decision to play on Sunday, even if it meant missing his sister’s big day.

“I hate to say it, but I would be here any day of the week,” he told NBC reporters Sunday night after the Chiefs’ win. “I love you, Kesslar. I hope it went well, but I’ll take that any day of the week.”

trainer Andy Reid praised Steele in his own interview, noting that his performance was “not bad” for a rookie debut. Although he missed a block early in the game, Steele had a great play later in the game.

“Honestly, my only goal is to protect this guy,” Steele said The Kansas City Star while he waves Patrick Mahomes after the game. “To have that job, just to have that chip off the edge and have Pat… I don’t know if we could have gotten that pass out if that chip hadn’t happened. So it’s really great to see that.”

Steele also had a rough game last week after losing a fumble early against the Cincinnati Bengals. He said his Chiefs teammates helped pick him up after the game, but it was actually his sister who was there for him the most.

“She had an incredibly stressful week, so we talked back and forth and she calmed me down,” he enthused The Kansas City Star.
