The Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Service (GMCBL) on Sunday extended its bus route 135B by nearly five kilometres. The extended route now connects Dhorka village to Iffco Chowk metro station, providing an alternative public transport option for residents who were previously dependent on private vehicles, taxis and shared cabs.

The first trip of the extended route started from Sare Homes in Sector 92 and was marked by the presence of a large number of local residents. Anup Yadav, the bus operator, mentioned that the route extension will reduce travel time and improve connectivity to major city centres. “The bus takes around 1.5 hours to cover the distance from Dhorka to Iffco Chowk Metro Station, with buses available almost every hour. The fare ranges from 10 to 35,” he said, adding that the first bus would leave Dhorka at 7.45 am.

According to officials, two buses, each with 36 seats, have been deployed on this route. Each bus will make eight trips daily, they added. Previously, the bus route covered only the route between Iffco Chowk and Sector 91. The new extension will cover areas from Sector 92 to NH48 and will stop at Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and finally at Iffco Chowk metro station.

Local residents like Pravin Malik, president of Sare Home RWA in Sector 92, expressed satisfaction with the route extension, citing consistent lobbying of the GMCBL management since June. Following the efforts of local residents, GMCBL conducted a passenger survey before implementing the route extension proposal. Malik highlighted the growing population in the area as a key factor for the route extension. “We are happy that the route has been extended. It will benefit residents of around nine to 10 residential complexes and three villages, including Dhorka, Mevka and Wazirpur,” he said.

Previously, bus services in the area had been suspended due to low ridership. “The population has grown significantly in the last two years and we are confident that more buses will now be added to this route,” said Malik. Sector 95 resident Jitender Kumar said, “The buses will provide a cheaper and safer alternative to commuters.”+

A senior GMCBL official said that work is underway to expand bus services across the city. More buses will be introduced in the next two to three months. He said, “We will get more buses in the next two to three months. This will help in introducing more buses on new routes and expanding and strengthening the existing routes.”

The official further said that they were also working on a way to connect bus service between the sectors along the Dwarka Expressway and Sector 21 Metro station in Dwarka.

Last Sunday, a new bus route was also opened between Sector 99 and Millennium City Metro Bus Stop, further improving regional connectivity.
