In response to the extensive damage caused by ongoing Russian artillery shelling, USAID provided vehicles to gas distribution network operators in the Kherson region for emergency repairs.
In addition to the vehicles, USAID delivered over 11 kilometers of pipes, gas supply control systems and other specialized equipment to help restore gas infrastructure damaged by the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam.
Russia’s destruction of the Kakhovka Dam was “one of its most serious crimes against the environment and the people of our entire region,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on June 6.
This support is part of USAID’s ongoing energy security project in Ukraine.
In addition, USAID recently connected 18 combined heat and power plants across the country to further strengthen Ukraine’s electricity grid.
As a result of ongoing Russian attacks, about 45 percent of the facilities of the state-owned Ukrainian hydropower company Ukrhydroenergo were destroyed.
