ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – Police said one person was killed in a shooting at MARTA’s Arts Center Station Sunday evening.

A MARTA police spokesman said a patrol officer heard gunshots coming from the station’s bus stop at 1255 W Peachtree Street NE in Midtown Atlanta around 9 p.m.

The spokesman said officers responded and assisted a victim who was taken to the hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead.

The victim has not yet been identified.

MARTA police are searching for a suspect.

The investigation is still in its early stages and few details are currently available.

A woman who got off the train at the station on her way home told Atlanta News First she was shocked when she heard what had happened.

“It’s scary, honestly, because diversity is so important in this area,” she said. “There are so many different cultures that come through here, that live nearby, that go to school nearby, the school, the camp, the museum, everything, so we don’t expect that. We really don’t.”

This is a developing story. Check back with Atlanta News First for updates.
