Firefighters quickly battle brush fire in Montecito Heights

Firefighters rushed to the scene of a brush fire in the Montecito Heights area on Sunday afternoon and were able to quickly contain the flames before they spread to surrounding vegetation.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire was first reported around 3:15 p.m. east of Ernest E. Debs Regional Park in the 4200 block of N. Monterey Road.

Crews said the “terrain-related” fire was fanned by light winds and quickly expanded to about 8 acres by 4:30 p.m. At that point, the fire was said to be under control.

No buildings were threatened by the fire and no injuries were reported.

SkyCal flew over the fire scene, where both ground crews and firefighting helicopters were busy containing the flames.

Investigators are trying to find out what caused the fire.
