A runway at Japan’s Narita airport had to be temporarily closed on Monday following reports that white smoke was rising from a Singapore Airlines plane landing, authorities said. However, emergency services found no signs of fire and no one was injured.

Six fire engines and two ambulances rushed to the scene because of the smoke. Narita Airport’s runway B was closed from about 7:40 a.m. (22:40 GMT), shortly after the flight landed at the Tokyo gateway, airport and fire department officials said.

“We received a report that white smoke was coming out of the left engine,” said a fire official from the city of Narita AFP.

However, there were no signs of fire and no one was injured, she said, adding that firefighters left the scene after observing the plane for more than an hour.

The plane was carrying 276 passengers and crew, local media reported. The airline reported the smoke to the airport after landing, an airport official said. AFP.”

It was reported that there may have been a problem with the landing,” said a spokesman for Narita International Airport AFP.

Tire fragments were found on the runway, the spokesman said. There was no further information about the incident.
