Telecommunications regulator asks for public participation on future spectrum use for IMT and satellite IoT systems

Oman’s national telecommunications regulator has launched a public consultation on the future use of the 1980-2010 MHz and 2170-2200 MHz frequency bands. The aim is to optimise spectrum resources to support the further development of international mobile communications (IMT), including satellite-based Internet of Things (IoT) services.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the demand for radio spectrum to use new communications technologies and services is increasing rapidly. In response, the regulator is reviewing the current and possible future use of the specified frequency bands. The main objectives of this project are to ensure efficient management of natural and national resources, create an investment-friendly regulatory environment and stimulate innovation in the field of communications technologies.

The project focuses on two main areas: adapting to the rapid advances in wireless technology and improving the quality of telecommunications services offered to the public. In this way, the Authority aims to create a flexible and investment-friendly environment that encourages the development of innovative technologies and services.

Stakeholders and the public are invited to submit their responses and opinions on the public consultation document before the deadline of 25 July 2024. The regulator will consider all feedback but reserves the right to determine which comments will be taken into account in the final decision-making process.
