Next year, Dead Bob’s will move to larger premises just a few blocks from its main location.
Fresh from its 10-year celebration, a gem in western St. Petersburg has just announced its move to much larger premises – and a larger parking lot, too.
Dead Bob’s future home at 6475 Central Ave. is less than a mile from the flagship at 6716 Central Ave.
Dead Bob’s 2.0 will open in the former 2,000-square-foot Kay’s Family Restaurant building and will offer more seating and parking than its flagship store on the Plaza, although the inexpensive selection of beer, wine, cocktails and classic bar food will remain.
According to its Facebook page, Kay’s Family Restaurant served its last customers on June 23 after 28 years of serving American diner classics in St. Pete.
In addition to its wide selection of beer, wine and cocktails, Dead Bob’s is also known for its extensive menu of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads and full entrees such as chicken in oil, scallops, pasta and pot roast.
And the kitchen stays open much later than most bars and restaurants in The ‘Burg, closing at 2am daily.
Breakfast sandwiches, burritos and tacos are also served every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., but St. Pete Rising says Dead Bob’s will be able to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner every day at its new location thanks to an expanded kitchen.
A large outdoor patio provides additional seating and also features live music.
In 2020, Dead Bob’s owners Ben Scherlis and Bill Hepscher opened a Tampa branch of their dive bar and no-frills restaurant at 3681 S West Shore Blvd. Scherlis also owns and operates The Joint in St. Pete, another neighborhood bar and nightspot, with another partner.
According to SPR, the expanded Dead Bob’s bar and restaurant in St. Pete is scheduled to open in early 2025, with the main location remaining open until then.
