In May, the Hudson Valley Post reported on the candy recall. The FDA has just updated the recall and assigned it the highest risk level.

Reason for the recall:
According to the FDA, the items could be contaminated with salmonella.
Salmonella can “cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”
Palmer Candy Company was notified by its liquid coating supplier that there was a potential for Salmonella contamination from an ingredient that may have been contaminated by one of its suppliers.
“In rare cases, Salmonella infection can cause the organism to enter the bloodstream and cause more serious illnesses, such as artery infections (e.g., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis,” the FDA explains.
Recall due to Class I risk level
On Tuesday, the FDA classified the recall as a “Class I” recall, the highest risk level assigned by the FDA.
