Paros Airport is undergoing extensive modernisation

Paros Airport is undergoing extensive modernisation

  • Expansion of Paros Airport promises better infrastructure for travel
  • The project will significantly increase terminal size and runway capacity
  • The first phases of the modernization will be completed by 2026 and will promote regional tourism and connectivity.

The ongoing improvement and expansion efforts of Paros Airport (IATA: PAS, ICAO: LGPA) will significantly improve tourism activities and infrastructure. These projects, overseen by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, are intended to provide new facilities to travelers.

This is not the case

The core elements of the 41 million euro project include:

  • Construction of a new 12,500 m² terminal and environmental improvements
  • Installation of a state-of-the-art control tower
  • Development of a modern fire station
  • Extension of the runway to a total of 1,800 metres with modernised lighting
  • Additional aircraft parking with four new jet parking spaces and corresponding lighting work
  • Creation of a car park with 550 spaces, including special areas for buses, access for the disabled and charging stations for electric vehicles
  • Implementation of a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant
  • Addition of a hydrocarbon separator to protect the environment
  • Integration of a 100 kWp solar photovoltaic system with connection to the public power grid

Improved infrastructure and visitor experience

The modern design of the terminal positions Paros as a premier destination and enhances the travel experience through world-class infrastructure. Upon completion of the project, the terminal will be expanded from 745 sqm to 17 times its current size. The phased handover of the airport to the CAA is expected to begin in summer 2026. In addition, the extension of the runway from 1,400 m to 1,800 m will accommodate larger aircraft and increase the parking capacity for aircraft and helicopters. Importantly, this major reconstruction will not disrupt ongoing flight operations.

In 2023, Paros Airport handled 331,852 passengers and recorded 6,781 aircraft movements. Forecasts for 2024 predict a 12% increase in passenger numbers.
