Attempted car theft at gas station in Newark with stolen vehicle: PD

NEWARK, NJ — Newark police are searching for suspects who attempted to steal a Mercedes Benz from a local gas station using a car stolen in East Orange, authorities said.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the attempted carjacking occurred at 12:05 p.m. Sunday at the Mobil gas station at Frelinghuysen Avenue and Meeker Avenue.

The suspects arrived at the scene in a car stolen from East Orange – a black 2020 BMW 330 with tinted windows and alloy wheels and the New Jersey license plate “B54PEK” – which they used to drive to Newark, police said (see photos above).

Authorities said anyone with information can contact the police’s 24-hour tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the police website.
